The USC Trojans turned in the most baffling performance of the season in a 55-21 loss to the Stanford Cardinal.
To watch the Trojans get clobbered at home in such a way by a medicore Stanford team was mind-boggling.
Quarterback Matt Barkley helped move the offense up and down the field but killed the team with costly turnovers.
The defense, which used to be feared by almost all opponents, was carved up by the Cardinal.
It seems that head coach Pete Carroll will have to go back to the drawing board and see just what exactly has happened this year to the powerhouse he built out on the West Coast.

Both parts of USC’s dynamic backfield missed most of practice on Tuesday. Tailbacks Joe McKnight and Allen Bradford are bothered by right knee injuries, while McKnight is also nursing a sore ankle.
Third-string back C.J. Gable took most of the snaps on Tuesday and is a capable fill-in, but the Trojans could find themselves in trouble if both McKnight and Bradford have to miss Saturday’s game at Arizona State. USC is looking to bounce back after suffering the worst beating in the Pete Carroll era, a 47-20 loss at Oregon. The Sun Devils are no match for the Trojans on paper, but if they can manage to keep it close and get the crowd involved, the Trojans could find their possibly-fragile psyches tested yet again.
McKnight leads the team in rushing yards (712) and touchdowns (7), while Bradford is averaging seven yards per carry.
